Jake here. It's been quite a while since I posted and I don't have much to say now. I just wanted to say a couple of things about Weezer's new album.
1. It sucks. Horribly.
2. Rivers Cuomo looks like an idiot.
3. This entire album reminds me of Kenny Loggins. Not good.
I haven't loved a Weezer album for years. Blue and Pinkerton were both amazing. Green was ok. It had a couple of good songs and some unmemorable stuff. I liked Maladroit but I think I may be alone on this. Make believe was good the first time I heard it but it failed to ever capture my attention again. This new Red Album though is the first time Weezer has released something which I hate. And its sad because I'll bet the one album I've listened to more than anything else ever was their first. Way to go Weezer. You lost me and I'll never respect you again.
On a good note, I've been loving Ratatat lately.

i really couldnt agree more with you. with basically everything you said and i think many other true weezer fans would say the same. my good friend john put it this way (paraphrasing here), "weezer is like Ford. the blue album was like the model-t and they've made some other good vehicles, but they also made a taurus" (green album or equivalent)...so, yeah, you know. they will always have a place in my heart, i will never stop loving the raw power of pinkerton no matter what. but that's that.
They should have stopped when they were good. I haven't heard the new album...but I can imagine it didn't improve from the last one which I didn't care for either.

I do agree the blue album and pinkerton are the best ones. Pinkerton reminds me of Marty mart mart and Hawaii :)
Jake, I am sorry you feel that way. I listened to the album today and I enjoyed it. But I also enjoy Kenny Loggins so maybe that has something to do with it. You aren't alone liking Maladroit though. I thought that album had some great guitar solos.
Mike and I were just talking about this same thing. I think I knew it was over for me when I went to one of there concerts and though, blah. I have yet to hear the album, but if we are judging books and covers, well I am sure it will suck.
Have you ever noticed how it pretty much all went down hill for Weezer after Matt Sharp left the band? Coincidence? Maybe. But take a listen to the new Tegan and Sara album, The Con, in which Matt Sharp played bass on several tracks. By far the best album they have released yet.

Oh no!! I love Weezer and i just ordered their new album online! sucks! maybe i can hurry and refund it. They are my favorite. Tell Jake thanks for the heads up.
