Inspiration received from my husband. I love Halloween and this might be the first Halloween I did not have a costume. I have not done a good job with my festivity this season. I hope every one does have a great day and a Happy Halloween!

The Shins In Paris
Jake here. I love the shins and this video of them playing on the streets of Paris is amazing! It left me speechless. Make sure to check out the rest of the performance.
VIVA MEXICO
We also went to Tijuana with my family and it was so fun. I forgot that Tijuana is just a shopping trip but I got some amazing buys that I will have to post about later. This first photo is of my dad and his high fashion. He is amazing.
Please notice his fanny pack and matching blue outfit plus his pose! That right there is pure class.
I snapped this photo right after this little girl was strumming Zach's guitar, purchased in Tijuana.
Jake loves Nacho Libre so he had to get a Lucha Libre mask.
Disneyland with the Folkman Bro's
I have been to Disneyland at least 10 times and the last few years when my family has gone I have opted out because I was sick of DLand. But this year my lovely mom gave Jake and I tickets to for my birthday. Both of our families were down in Southern California for the weekend and it was so nice to see them. Jake's brother went with my family, Jake and I to Disneyland and it was so fun! It was neat to see how excited Jake and Zach were and it brought back the magic in Disneyland for me. Zach's face is amazing. A look of pure shock and horror on his face. Thanks to the Folkmans for rejuvenating Disneyland.
California.
We went to Southern California for the the weekend. My old roommate/friend got married in LA. Jana looked stunning and so did Wes. Wes is a stud. Good job Jana and congrats to the Neser's.
On our way out of California we ran into the fires that are raging down there. This is just the line of traffic we waited in to turn around on I 15. We ended up taking a 5 hour detour through the Grapevine and Bakersfield. It was a long trip home and depressing because we did not want to be driving back to Utah.
More On David Byrne

Jake here. I had forgotten how intriguing David Byrne is. He's so different and has made a lot of really great music. Here are a few bits for you and I won't mention him again.

David Byrne On Mormon Temples
Jake here. My dad mentioned this and I looked it up. David Byrne seems to have a rather extensive knowledge of Mormon architectural history. In a blog entry about a cross country road trip he went off on an extensive tangent about the Washington DC temple and mentioned several other temples as well. Give it a read. The entire post is pretty lengthy but he addresses temples at the beginning. If you don't know who David Byrne is, he's this guy and this guy.
My "Celebrity" Look-a-likes.

Jake here. My being bored frequently results in disaster and confusion. Here are the "celebs" whom I resemble. It had never occurred to me that I look like Marat Safin or Raoul Wallenberg. Neat. And for fun I threw in a picture AJ posted last week from our 2-month summer unemployment party (which judging by my face was awesome). I never realized how hot I am.

"Apple's answer to Vista"

Dork Here. I feel obligated to inform the world of OS X 10.5 Leopard. This IT guy referred to Leopard with this post's title. Funny probably only to mac users and probably just the really dorky ones, myself included, but I consider myself a socially functional dork.
Photos Not Inteded For Your Grandmother

Jake here. My buddy is just finishing up his second degree in Graphic Design/Photography and I thought I'd share his website with you. They're really cool but a select few will undoubtedly instigate an awkward moment if viewed in the presence of a respected elder or your Bishop.
Illegal Driving Record

Jake here. In 1983 David Diem and Doug Turner set an illegal record of driving from Manhattan to Santa Monica in 32 hours 7 minutes. This guy is trying to beat the 24-year-old record; again, it will be illegal.

Today I made
CORN CHOWDER!
It turned out well. For the first time I burned my hand cooking and it hurts really bad but the chowder turned out cheesy and chunky- just the way I like it.
CORN AND POTATO CHOWDER
2 c. diced potatoes
1 c. sliced carrots
1 c. chopped celery
1/4 c. chopped green onion (optional)
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
3/4 c. water
2 c. corn
1 1/2 c. milk
(I actually substituted all the cream & milk for 1 cup of Half & Half)
1/2 c. evaporated milk or cream
1 c. diced pasteurized cheese
Simmer potatoes, carrots, celery, green onion, salt, pepper and water, covered, 15 minutes. Add corn and simmer another 5 minutes. Add milk, cream and cheese; stir until cheese melts and soup is heated. Do not boil.
Note: I usually double or triple recipe.
It's Final
Jake and I finally made a decision that we are going to be moving to Seattle (Redmond actually) in January. In September we will be moving to Bellingham for Jake to start school again (If all applications go well, which I know they will). We stayed there for the month of July this summer and it was amazing. I love California where I am from but I could be content in Washington state as well. A huge plus is that Jake's family is all there and they are amazing. I think we are really going to enjoy it.
Here are some pictures from our adventures this summer.

Radiohead tells the RIAA to stick it.

Jake here. I mentioned Radiohead's new album nine days ago and downloaded it this morning. This marks a major turning point in the music industry. The band only announced completion of their new album nine days ago and this morning I listened to it. To download it just head to inrainbows.com and name your own price (in pounds). All revenue goes to the band and there is no label to deal with. This is major because Radiohead is one of the most influential bands of the last twenty years and they released, hands down, the best album of the 90s. Such an important band could easily spark a revolution. Nothing would make me happier than all of my favorite bands forgoing a label and distributing their music via their own website and taking in all of the revenue. It's cool that Radiohead let me name my own price but i wouldn't even expect other bands to do the same. I just don't want money going to the record labels. If you don't understand why I don't want to support the record industry, turn on the radio.

Rilo Kiley
For Jakes birthday this year I bought him tickets to Modest Mouse. Last month Modest Mouse played at UVSC and Matt Costa and Rilo Kiley opened for them. I really like Matt Costa and so it was a pleasant surprise that he opened for them. I had never heard of Rilo Kiley but I really liked them and this song. I think Jake is sexist because he did not feel a "girl band" should be opening for Modest Mouse, I on the other hand think they are very talented. Rilo Kiley has two band members who were formerly child actors. Jenny Lewis, main vocals, was in Troop Beverly Hills & The Wizard. Blake Sennett, lead guitar, was in Salute Your Shorts and Boy Meets World. I nicknamed him little man during the show because he is a little man. I went home and was reading about Rilo Kiley and cam across this discovery. I was really excited to tell Jake and he came home that night and was telling me that the guitarist totally looked like the kind on Boy Meets World. I thought it was freakishly weird and funny.

This is my oldest brother Monti and this is a video he made all by himself. He is very talented and I thought this video was awesome. It is all stop-motion.

Bats For Lashes
Any of you enjoy the old bike movie RAD? This video reminded me of it. It's also like the modern day Alice in Wonderland with a twist of Halloween delight. The gal is British and rumor has it (my source is Jake) that Thom York loves her. I want to know.
FOUND
Found Magazine is so fun and intriguing to look at. The website updates daily with a new "find". Found also publishes a book and magazine a few times a year. They are such a treat to see everyday. It is like the twelve days of Christmas but all year long. The "finds" are pieces of life found by others. If you have something "Found" worthy you can upload it to the website and they will post it in the future. Jake found a really funny "How The World Could End" list in his classroom last year while teaching high school in Hawaii. One of the ways was, "myspace gets canceled". Another was "my mom sees my grades." I will find it and post it later this week.
