Jake here. More from the awesome film critic. He's actually got quite the stash of video material over at his YouTube account, although Rambo is his only movie review. Make sure you look him up.

I'll See You In Another Life Brotha

Last night we watched the reshowing of last seasons last episode. Tonight we are going over to the Recklings to watch Lost. I can not wait. I think I might dress up as Naomi. I am trying to convince Jake to dress up as Jack or Ben. But for the party I downloaded a bunch of DHARMA food labels. I had to search because insanelygreattees got a nasty letter from the Hanso Foundation (yes, the Hanso Foundation not ABC) telling them to take the download off the site. So ridiculous. I got my labels from here.
Dolla Bill Employed $
I don't know if Jake already mentioned but he got a job. He is working at the Mac store in Bellevue. The real Mac store, not the rip-off Simply Mac that he used to work at in Provo (L.A.ME.). He is going to school and working here so he will be pretty busy. For those of you who do not know Jake he is an avid Mac supporter and user. I think he will do great at his new job (and I am stoked for the benefits).
Yael Naim has been bouncing around blogs and I really liked this ad and was happy to hear her track on it. How amazing is the Macbook Air?

Snow Day

Jake here. So today, because there was an inch of snow, the state has shut down. Me and AJ will be staying home and being awesome. We'll probably go outside and play in the snow a little bit too. AJ wants to go sledding but we don't have a sled so I said we'll have to make-shift something out of a sled. But that doesn't make sense, does it? We'll probably just play Wii all day. I wonder if they have a Wii sledding game...

Comics

Jake here. I've never read a comic book before in my life and last week my little brother lent me the above pictured comic book entitled Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud. It dissects comics in the most interesting way and explains why it is a viable form of fine art. I highly suggest reading it. And then I read the other above pictured collection of comics known as The Sandman. I've only gotten through volume one, but I plan on continuing the series as soon as volume two shows up at the library. In short, I have a new-found respect and love of awesome comics. But seriously, read the Scott McCloud book. It'll open your eyes in the most interesting way, even if you're not planning on reading any other comics.

Awesome Prank For The Office

Jake here. This little doohickey, when connected somewhere between the wall and the phone, will randomly reassign 75% of dialed numbers so your co-workers will constantly get wrong numbers and won't ever be able to make the calls they need to. It will apparently always let 9-1-1 calls through though so there're no safety concerns. If you can hide this thing well, it will no doubt cause a few IT guys to go absolutely nuts. You can get one from www.SpySite.com.

Old Music
Jake here. Anybody remember Roxy Music? Here's Brian Eno, one of the founding members aka the Father of Ambient. Give it a good listen, it's really good and old. It's called Here Come The Warm Jets.

SPED 4 LIFE

I officially had my first week of work. I got a job teaching special education preschool. Most of my students are diagnosed with Autism and are in an integrated class setting. My school is like 10 min. away from our house so it is a nice short drive. I only work 3.5 days a week and then get to substitute in the district on Fridays. I love my schedule and my coworkers. The kids are super fun and pretty funny. I am sure I will have stories to tell. The first few days were a little rocky not knowing my responsibilities, no work space and being told multiple times a day by loving preschool teachers that I need to dress warmer. Here is a direct quote (seriously said with nice intentions), "You should probably get more sensible shoes and wear socks." Times this quote by 15 and that is what I have been getting. It is just a care taking quality that I hope I do not pick up. However, they are right, I do need warm clothes. I have been freezing my tail off. Anyway, so far so good.

Without end
The Man
Jake and I celebrated our one year anniversary on Dec. 30 but we were on the road. I just want to take a few lines to tell how much my husband rocks. Some qualities that come to mind when I think about Jake are humble, committed, compassionate, tender, intelligent, goofy/funny/witty, handy, honest, provider (maybe not economically since he is in school again but every other aspect), manly (as in the true essence of manhood not the chauvinistic pig type) and cool. I forgot talented as well. Jake has this cool factor about him that I think he is totally unaware of. He has a great taste in music, he has great style (not that it is important), he has super cool random knowledge/facts, reads cool books and has the best taste in movies (minus one, Evolution) and he has super cool interest and likes radicool activities. Enough about the temporal. The whole time I have known Jake I have never seen him tell a lie or turn down the opportunity to serve another. When we were dating I wondered about his spirituality because he didn't wear it on his sleeve like a lot of Mormon schmucks do. I wondered how he felt about the church, his Priesthood and his testimony. As I watched Jake's actions all doubt was gone and I saw a beautiful human being. The most beautiful I have ever know. He was honest in all his actions and words, he served others so humbly and especially me. He never asked for anything in return just did kind acts for others because it was innate to him. As I come to know him more and more he amazes me each day (really!). I am grateful for him and his love and our marriage. He is a wonderful husband, brother, son and friend.
More Radiohead Being Awesome

Amazing New Radiohead Video
Jake here. I'm not sure if Radiohead actually had anything to do with the making of this mini video but it is simply sweet. You all probably want me to shut up about In Rainbows now but Radiohead finally released the Album on an actual CD and it is sitting prettily re-encoded on my computer in 320k AAC format now instead of the low quality MP3 version I previously had. Once again, if you haven't got the album yet, head to your neighborhood record store to buy it today. You won't be sorry.
Update. It is an official Radiohead promo for the new album.

Hyper-Color Toilet Seat

Jake here. Ever get grossed out when you sit down to take care of business only to find out that business has just been taken care of by someone else? In comes the heat-sensitive, color-changing toilet seat to warn you of just such unpleasant experiences which lurk seconds around the corner. I remember the t-shirt version of this thing back in 1990.

Long Time No See
Jake here. So it's been a while since either of us have posted here on Kindred Folk. We apologize for the dry spell but have been extremely busy for the last couple of weeks. Until we get rolling again, be grateful this is not your kid.
