Cool article about Music, Oink, the RIAA.

Jake here. For those of you familiar with Oink, you're hopefully aware that it was shut down a while ago. As was Demonoid. There are many a sad faces around the world thanks to this. For those of you who love music and don't have a great taste in your mouth for the RIAA please read this article. It's a little long but very interesting. I fully support everything this guy has to say except for the Radiohead stuff. I think Radiohead made some great progress with their digital distribution of In Rainbows.
By the way, AJ and I are in Cayucos right now visiting Ashley and Tyler. Sweet town. We'll post pics later.

Here are a couple of things this article failed to mention however:

1. Music sales are consistently going down down. This goes for both independant and major record labels as well as independant artists.

2. The author of this article seems to be very supportive of artists owning their own music. He says that in the future record labels will simply make money by taking a percentage from bands touring and merchandise sales. Sweet! They screwed bands before by not paying them much for their music and now since music sales are down they can screw bands every other way! Will bands really care if they own their own music if the music is worth nothing? How exactly is this a good thing?
